Popularity of Fallout Soars with New TV Show and Game Updates

"It's the end of the world, all over again"
by Joe Wilcock on April 13, 2024

The Fallout series is currently enjoying a significant resurgence in popularity. This surge can be attributed to several factors, including the recent launch of Amazon’s television adaptation and notable updates to existing games by Bethesda Game Studios.

Steam’s player counts offer a clear picture of this growing excitement. Since April 10, peak player counts have doubled for both Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. Fallout 4 reached a peak of 43,000 players, up from 18,000, while Fallout 76 surged to 19,161 players at its peak, compared to 10,000. These figures represent the highest peak player count for Fallout 76 on Steam since 2020. Additionally, Fallout 3 has seen a significant increase, peaking at 2,501 players from 813.

The recent success of the Fallout TV series, available on Amazon Prime Video, has undoubtedly contributed to this surge in interest. Bethesda Game Studios’ marketing efforts, in collaboration with Amazon Prime Video, have amplified the franchise’s visibility. This multimedia approach has attracted both returning fans and newcomers to the Fallout universe.

Bethesda Game Studios has also contributed to the hype with its recent announcements. The long-awaited next-gen update for Fallout 4 has excited fans awaiting enhanced graphics and performance. Meanwhile, Fallout 76 received a substantial update, enriching the gameplay experience with new content and improvements.

For those interested in exploring the Fallout universe, there’s currently an opportunity to try out Fallout 76 for free. This offer allows newcomers to experience Bethesda’s open-world, post-apocalyptic gameplay without any financial commitment.

Looking ahead, there’s no news yet on a Fallout 5. Fans may have to wait another six or seven years for the next installment in the main series. However, the renewed interest in older titles suggests that players are content revisiting or discovering the franchise’s roots.

The Fallout franchise is enjoying a well-deserved moment in the spotlight. With a successful TV series, enticing game updates, and a growing player base, Fallout is proving that it remains a force to be reckoned with. Whether this surge in popularity will translate into long-term engagement remains to be seen, but for now, Fallout is back on everyone’s radar.
