Helldivers 2 to Receive Major Update Next Week

Along with a brand new Warbond
by Joe Wilcock on June 09, 2024

In an announcement made on the Helldivers Discord, community manager Twinbeard revealed that the upcoming patch for Helldivers 2 will include over 100 changes and fixes. This significant update is expected to address various issues and improve gameplay based on player feedback. The patch is anticipated to be released next week.

One of the key changes in the upcoming update involves the reversion of patrols and spawn rates to their previous settings. This adjustment comes in response to community feedback regarding changes made in earlier patches. Additionally, the patch will introduce invite-only lobbies, rectify the unlimited grenade issue, and make super samples available at level six difficulty. Super samples, which are currently locked to higher difficulties, are crucial for unlocking the final ship module in each section. This change is expected to make them more accessible to a broader range of players.

Another notable improvement is the introduction of visible supply lines and attack origins on the galaxy map. Currently, the paths to planet liberation are not visible, causing confusion among players about the focus of new Major Orders. By making these supply lines visible, the patch aims to enhance the strategic element of the Galactic War, which has been a point of contention among dedicated players.

The early reactions to the patch news have been positive within the Helldivers community. Fans had previously called on Arrowhead to take more time with updates and Premium Warbonds after some earlier efforts did not meet expectations. In a post on the Helldivers subreddit, Twinbeard acknowledged this sentiment, saying, "It was frankly about time we offered you something. We know you've been waiting a long time. Hopefully, the patch and new warbond are two steps in the right direction."

In addition to the patch, Helldivers 2 will see the release of a new jungle-themed Viper Commandos warbond on June 13. According to a recent PlayStation Blog post by Katherine Baskin, social media and community manager at Arrowhead, the studio has adjusted its approach to warbonds in response to player feedback. Arrowhead has decided to slow down the release pace of warbonds to ensure higher quality and better-polished designs. Baskin stated, "We don’t want to rush anything out of the oven before it’s fully baked."

Next week promises to be a pivotal moment for Helldivers 2, with the game-changing patch and the new warbond set to be released simultaneously. This update marks a new approach for Arrowhead in terms of update cadence and overall game development. Recently, the studio has been undergoing a transformation to better handle the success brought by Helldivers 2. Shams Jorjani, the new CEO who replaced Johan Pilestedt (now Chief Creative Officer), mentioned in a Reddit post that the studio is making changes to "make more and better stuff" in the long term.

Helldivers 2 has been a commercial success, becoming the fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time with 12 million copies sold in just 12 weeks since its release. Despite this success, Arrowhead has faced several challenges, including launch server issues and a conflict with Sony over the console maker's attempt to force Steam players to link their accounts to PlayStation Network.

The upcoming patch and warbond are seen as steps towards addressing player concerns and improving the overall experience.
