Escape From Tarkov Patch Beefs Up AI Enemies

AI PMCs just became much more deadlier
by Tit Krajnik on July 04, 2024

The latest Escape from Tarkov patch 0.14.9.5 just dropped, and it introduced many changes and improvements to the extraction shooter. The most notable are significant improvements to AI enemies, which will make PMCs and Scavs much harder to deal with.

The players have billed the 0.14.9.5 update as a change Escape from Tarkov needed, improving the PvE experience by making the AI of PMCs much more capable. Among other things, the change allows AI to move more freely, react better to situations, and ultimately increase their lethality.

Escape from Tarkov Patch Makes AI More Lethal

The 0.14.9.5 update has introduced fixes that improve a major problem Escape from Tarkov has had for a while. Especially those players who have been running PvE, have been noticing that the AI enemies tend to be a bit too easy to deal with.

Especially more experienced players have already memorized AI spawn points and patrol routes, making AI PMCs nothing more than a small obstacle in their adventures.

Yet all that is about to change.

As confirmed in the latest patch notes, AI PMCs can now travel all over the map with no set routes. Moreover, they’ll select destinations depending on the likelihood of finding good loot and even create ambushes.

The AI will also be able to pick up equipment and weapons, and if they find a better item, they’ll replace theirs with it. Once they’ve found enough loot or when enough time passes AI PMCs will extract from the location.

And it’s not only the AI PMCs that were improved with the patch. AI Scavs will also have changed behavior, now traveling all over the location, looking for loot.

Unlike PMCs, Scavs will be less picky about loot quality but will travel between locations in a tactical formation, making them harder to kill.

All this, while a substantial improvement to Escape from Tarkov's AI, is just the start of much bigger plans Battlestate has in the works.

“This is the first iteration of AI improvements within PvE mode. In future updates, we also plan to refine the tactical behaviour of AI, as well as the interaction system between AI of different factions.”

Escape from Tarkov Patch Notes

  • AI PMCs now pick up items and replace their items if they find a better loot
  • AI PMCs can now travel all over the map
  • AI can set up ambushes
  • AI PMCs can now extract from the location – when they collect enough loot or when enough time has passed
  • AI PMCs are able to sprint in open terrain
  • All AI can react to the enemy and players’ location
  • Al Scavs are able to travel all over the location and form tactical formations

With all the changes, the AI in the game will become much harder to deal with, so much so that they could become a nuisance. However, while it’s fair to expect some problems and overturning shortly after such a major update, things will balance out with time.
