Paladins Launches a New Wade Defense Mode

A new mode, inspired by existing mods
by Tit Krajnik on July 13, 2024

A new PvE Horde Mode was announced on Friday, July 12, in the latest Paladins Developer Update. The new mode was announced as a part of a free update for the popular free-to-play hero shooter.

Paladins might not be as popular as other massive free-to-play shooters like Apex Legends, Team Fortress 2, or Overwatch. However, it has stood the test of time and is widely considered a solid title, boasting a positive rating on Steam.

Launched in 2016, Paladins remains a popular F2P hero shooter, and it recently received a substantial update, which introduced a new PvE horde mode.

What is Paladins Horde Mode?

Paladins Horde Mode is the latest wave defense rotating game mode added to the game with the Tidal Surge update, which was released on Friday, July 13. Like other wave defense game modes, Paladins will see players fight off waves of AI combatants with the goal of surviving for 10 minutes.

"PvE experiences are nothing new to Paladins; from LTM scenarios to past Events like Dark Tides, we’ve always toyed around with moments where players can fight AI combatants."

As revealed by developers, the new mode was created as a passion project to create a new experience, offering players a more developed vision of what the mods could be.

Players can join forces with their team and protect the in-game objective from the horde and prevent the horde from draining their tickets. The horde win if the players lose 30 tickets, where dying loses one ticked and the objective drains one ticket every three seconds it’s left uncontested.

In addition, players will be able to claim random powerups with a chance to spawn after a kill – offering players brief buffs to aid them on their quest.

At launch, the game mode will offer three locations:

  • The Forgotten Altar
  • Dark Tides
  • Corrupted Burrow

Each location will feature different forces and all three will be set in various aspects of the Paladins universe. While intended as a mode played with a group of friends, the wave defense mode can be played solo or by queueing with random players.

Paladins Tidal Surge update is live now on Public Test Server (PTS) and available for anyone who decides to download the game from Steam for free.
