Apex Legends Season 22 Introduces a New Map

New cyberpunk-themed map with easter eggs and Apex Legends lore
by Tit Krajnik on August 01, 2024

Apex Legends Season 22, Shockwave, is set to launch later this week, introducing a plethora of changes to one of the most popular battle royale games. The most notable addition is a new map, E-District, which will come with easter eggs and Caustic's backstory.

When first announced, Apex Legends Season 22 was met with waves of criticism by fans who urged the developers to revise their approach. Respawn Entertainment responded by reverting some of the planned changes, turning the controversial season into one of the most anticipated to date.

A big reason for the fans' excitement about Apex Legends Season 22, named Shockwave, is the introduction of a brand-new map, E-Distric, which is the first new map added to the game since Broken Moon in Season 15.

Major Changes With Apex Legends Season 22

The addition of E-District brings Apes Legends' total map count to six and is one of the most notable additions of the next season. However, it's by no means the only thing that is about to change.

Along with a new map, players can also look forward to new game modes, including Bot Royale and Revival Mode for trios, as well as an akimbo feature. With this, players will now be able to hold a weapon in both of their hands, with mirrored attachments for both guns.

Light machine guns are also getting updated. Since they can't compete with SMGs and Assault Weapons, LMGs will now come with Hop-Ups, which add front-facing shields that activate when a player aims down site. These shields will absorb up to 40 damage and have a short cooldown.

More notably, aim assist will be nerfed by 25% to create a fair playing field and prevent controller players from having a significant advantage.

E-District Joins Apex Legends' Map List

As the sixth name joining Apex Legends' map list, E-District is described as an electrifying "close quarters map". The new cyberpunk playground, which has been in development for over five years, will feature neon-drenched Japanese-inspired buildings and numerous skyscrapers as a form of a vertical battleground, along with long alleyways and multi-layered design.

The map was first teased in Kill Code part 4 cinematic where it became very evident that wall-tech will play a big role on the new densely-paced map.

Lore enthusiasts will also be happy with what E-District has in store for them, especially those willing to spend time exploring posters, murals, and arcades spread across the map. On top of that, nods to Titanfall are included, such as Humbert Labs POI, which has ties to planet Angelia and Caustic.

Apex Legends Season 22, Shockwave, will launch on August 6, 2024, introducing plenty of new things for players to look forward to. And while the akimbo weapons and changes to LMGs are noteworthy, the biggest change is the addition of E-District.
