Red Dead Online Stand Alone Game Is A Rockstar First

Is This The Beginning Of A New Trend
by Oliver VanDervoort on December 22, 2020

Red Dead Online has had some ups and downs since it was released alongside Red Dead Redemption 2. It appears Rockstar has polished it up enough that the company is taking a big first step with the mode.

On December 1, the online aspect of a blockbuster “Old West” game is going “stand alone.” It’s the first time the company has done anything like this with one of its titles. That it would do it with an online game mode that isn’t nearly as popular as its Grand Theft Auto Online

The new separate game carries a price of just $4.99 if you act fast, Rockstar says they’ll be asking about four times that amount on February 15, 2021. It’s a safe bet the firm has something big up its sleeve for Red Dead Online after Valentines Day.

Like the mode still attached to Red Dead Redemption 2, players are able to choose roles such as Bounty Hunter, a Naturalist, a Trader, a Collector, or running a Moonshine distillery.

You can also play a series of short story missions if you want to help the widow Jessica LeClerk and her right-hand man, Horley gain revenge upon the men who killed her husband in “A Land of Opportunities.”

There is one big drawback to this mode. If you thought purchasing, this would help you free up some storage space, you were sorely mistaken. Rockstar says the game needs at least 123GB. At least part of that is because you’ll be able to unlock Red Dead Redemption 2 if you don’t already own the game.

Red Dead Online will also still be fully functional if you’re playing it alongside the original game that you bought over a year ago.
