Mass Effect Legendary Edition Has A Massive Launch Day Patch

The Remaster Is Still A Few Weeks Away But BioWare Has Some Big Updates Ready To Go
by Oliver VanDervoort on May 04, 2021

Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the upgraded remasters of the first three Mass Effect games as well as most of the DLC, releases on May 14. However, it appears there are already some hints as to what's coming in the game's day one update.

The patch is likely to contain performance tweaks, lighting improvements, and "miscellaneous content fixes."

We have a good idea of what the day one patch looks like because Mass Effect Legendary Edition's Patch 1.1 has already gone live on PlayStation servers.

It also appears those fixes are not slight. The patch brings a hefty 11.8 GB download. While the changes in the day one patch aren't all that surprising, the size is notable, especially for people who are getting the game on disc.

The patch notes, which are quite vague, reveal a few tweaks to make the game run better. The full list is below:

  • Improves performance
  • Improves stability and fixes crashes
  • Improvements to Ambient Occlusion (AO)
  • Lighting improvements--both visual and performance-related
  • Miscellaneous content fixes

The game is coming PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC though there isn't a specific upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X. It's also not clear if such a thing might be planned for later in the year.

The graphics for Mass Effect Legendary Edition have been souped up, but it isn't just a remaster. The combat systems have been updated and made a bit more uniform across all three games.
