2021 Call of Duty League Goes Back to LAN Play

The event takes place at Esports Stadium in Texas
by Tit Krajnik on May 10, 2021

As revealed by Activision on Thursday, May 6, the Call of Duty League (CDL) is going back to LAN play with the Stage 4 Major in June. The event will be hosted at the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas and will run from June 17-20.

CDL Stage 4 Major will feature all 12 CoD teams who will compete in a double-elimination best-of-five (Bo5) format for the largest slice of $500,000 prize pool and coveted CDL Points.

The announcement about CDL returning back to LAN has surfaced on CDL's official website, where it was unveiled that all participating players and team staff will have to follow strict COVID-19 protocols. Those include Rapid Response testing throughout the event that will have limited attendance.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, live crowd will not be allowed at the venue. Likewise, the commentators and hosts will have to work remotely to ensure "the safety and comfort of all participating players and staff.”

"We have been diligently exploring ways for the Call of Duty League to return to a live event format, so long as it is safe to do so. Today is the first step in that process," read the announcement.

Stage 4 Major will see CDL return to LAN for the first time since the 2020 CDL Los Angeles Home Series in March. The last offline Home Series was won by Dallas Empire who will now play host to the upcoming Major.

It will mark the penultimate Major event of the season, before the CDL Championship and an important event for the teams who still lack points to qualify for the season-culminating event. As it stands now, no team has yet to guarantee their spot in the championship event, however, there a few that are in an excellent position to earn enough CDL points by the end of the season.

The current 2021 CDL Standings look as follows:

Atlanta FaZe - 245 CDL Points
Dallas Empire - 200 CDL Points
New York Subliners - 170 CDL Points
Toronto Ultra - 165 CDL Points
OpTic Chicago - 160 CDL Points
Los Angeles Thieves - 140 CDL Points
Minnesota RØKKR - 130 CDL Points
Los Angeles Guerrillas - 80 CDL Points
Florida Mutineers - 70 CDL Points
Paris Legion - 60 CDL Points
Seattle Surge - 50 CDL Points
London Royal Ravens - 40 CDL Points

According to Hector "H3CZ" Rodriguez, CEO of OpTic Chicago, the first full LAN events with audience could be the 2021 CDL Championship. At the time of writing, Activision have yet to unveil the exact date for CDL Championship, however, it will likely happen sometime in August.
