Bethesda Forums Shutting Down for Good Next Week

Bethesda forums to shut down, despite cherished titles
by Luke Luby on May 21, 2021

Bethesda has had quite a few critical and commercial successes during its history. Throughout this time, fans always had the studio's forums to rely on for help, such as hints and tips. That will be no more, however, as the company is shutting down the forums from next week onwards. The developer took to its website to detail how long this process will take and what players can expect.

In the announcement, the studio acknowledged how much of a role the Bethesda forums played for gamers. As the developer stated:

When the forums first started on Bethsoft.com, they were a great place for everyone to discuss amazing games, share stories, and come together with similar interests. The forums have seen many changes over the years, and we’ve enjoyed seeing our community grow and evolve alongside Bethesda and all of our games. Now, though, with the numerous ways people are communicating, we feel the time is right to move away from the forums and chat with you where you prefer to be.

Gamers will still be able to get help and build a community online with other players, however. That's because, instead of the Bethesda forums, players can switch over to the official Discord channels. These were outlined by the studio in their announcement and will act as a new base for the games. That includes each of the developers' core franchises, alongside official company accounts.

In terms of the forums themselves, the company will be taking a methodical approach to deactivating them. On May 24, they will become read-only; while gamers can still look up previous posts, they won't be able to make any of their own. From July 6, the company will start removing “smaller, less populated” forums. After that, they'll move onto the larger parts of the website. For players over a certain age, they'll be sorely missed.
