Nintendo Planning A New Switch Model For This Fall

The Announcement Could Come Next Month
by Oliver VanDervoort on May 30, 2021

The gaming public might be closer to the Nintendo Switch Pro than anyone would have believed even a month ago. Bloomberg claimed, in a recent report that the upgraded version of its uber-popular console could actually be unveiled at E3 next month and then go into production this July. The plan by Nintendo is to begin replacing the Switch on the shelves goes into effect in September.

Sources reportedly told Bloomberg that the new Switch, which is thought to be more powerful than the current version, will likely have a price tag a bit higher than $299. It's also said it will be selling alongside the $199 Nintendo Switch Lite and will replace the full version of the Switch.

Assemblers will start shipping the new model -- whose commercial name is known only to a handful of people within the Kyoto-based company -- as early as July and production is planned to ramp up to a peak in the October-December quarter. This is despite widespread semiconductor shortages that have affected the supply of everything from automobiles to TVs, headphones and games consoles, including the Switch itself.

Nintendo has not confirmed this plan, but the insiders who talked to Bloomberg are considered to be reliable and are confirming rumors that have been floating out there before about a revamped Nintendo Switch. As is the case with several other rumors flying around the video game industry these days, we won't have to wait long to see if it's true or not. If Nintendo is planning on selling a brand new version of the Switch this fall, it will almost certainly get an official announcement at E3.
