Pokémon GO's Season Of Discovery Unveiled

Niantic has details what to expect with Pokémon GO's Season of Discovery.
by Luke Luby on June 01, 2021

While Pokémon GO mightn’t be as popular as it was when it initially released, it’s still maintained an active fanbase. That’s primarily been driven by the continual updates that developer Niantic releases. June’s upcoming update has been called Season of Discovery, with the developer detailing what this will bring.

One of the biggest changes is that the eggs that hatch around the world will spawn different Pokémon. These are set to be a callback to earlier installments in the franchise, which helps bring certain creatures back into the spotlight. According to Niantic, this refresh looks to be pretty major, so fans can expect quite a change.

There’ll also be a seasonal change in the game, which will affect which Pokémon are available in each hemisphere. Those living in the Northern Hemisphere will see Alolan Diglett, Staryu, Barboach, Petilil, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, and Summer Form Deerling appear more frequently in the wild.

In the Southern Hemisphere, however, Pokémon GO players will see more Alolan Sandshrew, Alolan Vulpix, Shellder, Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, and Winter Form Deerling. The new update isn’t the only change coming to the mobile game in June, however. Instead, Niantic has announced a few other new features and programs.

Alongside announcing the June Breakthrough reward as Clampearl, the developer noted that the Regi-Legendaries will return for the first half of the month for five star raids. Outside of that, players can expect the typical events that happen almost every other month.

Pokémon GOFest will be taking place the following month. While fans normally flocked to the annual event, it’s difficult to do this year with lockdown and social distancing restrictions. This year’s event will be heavily discounted, however, which could make it much more appealing for fans.

With the game getting so many regular updates, it isn’t surprising why the Pokémon GO community is still so active. The game is available on Android and iPhone.
