God Of War: Ragnarök Has Officially Been Pushed To 2022

The delay announcement was not particularly surprising to many.

On Wednesday afternoon, Sony made an announcement that surprised little but likely disappointed many. The company announced that its God of War sequel Ragnarök has officially been delayed until 2022.

During an interview with the internal Sony news website, studio president Herman Hulst talked about a number of different topics. Those topics included what the status of the next God of War was.

"So we have, currently, two very big, very narrative-driven games in development: Horizon Forbidden West and the next God of War," Hulst said. "And for both of those, they’re frankly affected by access to performance capture and talent. For Horizon, we think we are on track to release this holiday season. But that isn’t quite certain yet, and we’re working as hard as we can to confirm that to you as soon as we can."

While the exec still has hope that Forbidden West can be released in 2021, he made it clear he doesn't have those same hopes for the other title.

"And for God of War," he said. "The project started a little later. So we’ve made the decision to push that game out to next year, to ensure that Santa Monica Studio can deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play."

"With these things," he added. "Something’s gotta give. It cannot be the quality of our titles, and it surely won’t be the health or the wellbeing of our amazing team."

While there are people who are likely disappointed about this development, the lack of information about the game since it was first announced had many people assuming it would be a few years before they actually saw it.

Now the big question is whether or not Sony can actually get the game out in 2022.
