Scarlet Nexus Developer Shoots Down Xbox Game Pass Rumors

Rumor circulates in gaming since last weekend
by Oliver VanDervoort on June 10, 2021

Earlier this week it was claimed that Microsoft had secured Scarlet Nexus as a day one release for Xbox Game Pass, similar to how it signed Square Enix’s Outriders and Sony's MLB The Show 21 earlier this year.

However, when asked to comment on the claims, developer Bandai Namco issued a staunch denial on Tuesday.

“We have no plans to bring Scarlet Nexus to Xbox Game Pass at this time and are excited for its launch on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC on June 25,” a spokesperson said.

One aspect that fueled the rumors that Scarlet Nexus was coming to Game Pass, is that it was revealed in 2020 during an Xbox showcase. It now appears that was not foreshadowing, unless the two companies work out some kind of last-second deal.

It seems unlikely given the direct nature of the denial by Bandai Namco.

Scarlet Nexus takes place in a distant future in which a group of psionic soldiers called the OSF represents humanity’s last hope in a battle against brain-eating mutants known as Others.

There is currently a demo of the sci-fi anime game available on the Xbox but that appears to be the extent of the business arrangement between Microsoft and the game's developers at this point.
