Guardians of the Galaxy For Nintendo Switch Will Be Cloud Version

There Are Pluses And Minuses To That Move
by Oliver VanDervoort on June 21, 2021

When the recently announced Guardians of the Galaxy game was announced to be coming to the Nintendo Switch, some in the gaming public furrowed their brows over what seemed like it would surely mean a game that simply didn't look as good on that particular platform.

It turns out Square Enix and Nintendo came up with a workaround that solves one problem but adds another. Nintendo announced earlier this week that their version of Guardians of the Galaxy would be a "cloud" version of the game. The postiive of that particular decision is that it will be the exact same game as what players will find on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

For those who don't have either of those consoles or a computer that can run the game, Nintendo is definitely offering a nice option, especially when considering players will be able to play the game using their handheld device.

On the other hand, offering the cloud version of the game means that Nintendo's "play anywhere" promise isn't really a thing here. Players will need to be hooked up to the internet in order to access their copy of the game. For a large swath of Switch users, that defeats the purpose of the handheld mode at all.

Just how much the cloud version of Guardians of the Galaxy on the Nintendo Switch helps or hurts sales on that platform won't be known until this fall when the game launches on October 26.
