Esports Legend "NBK" Makes The Move To Valorant

The two-time CS:GO Major winner has left the server
by Tit Krajnik on July 01, 2021

Esports legend and two-time Major champion Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt has announced his retirement from the competitive Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. NBK- revealed that he is moving to compete in Valorant.

The 27-year-old followed the footsteps of many other CS:GO pros and decided to exit the scene in order to continue his esports career in Riot Games' tactical first-person shooter.

NBK- revealed his decision to transition to Valorant with a short video titled "A new beginning". The video featured NBK-'s most memorable moments as a CS:GO pro player, from the saddest moments to NBK- lifting trophies, most notably at DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015 and the DreamHack Winter 2014, where NBK- won his two Major Championships as a part of Team EnVyUs and Team LDLC.

"I have done it all, from local LANs to winning Majors. Grinded through the ranks, sat on top of the world. I lived the biggest disappointments, and the best tournament wins," said NBK-.

"Counter-Strike gave me everything, and I dedicated my life to it. But memories are made to stay in the past – it is time for a change, and I am coming to dominate."

NBK- started his professional career in CS: Source in 2009 and transitioned to CS:GO in August 2012. Throughout his nine-year-long career as a CS:GO pro, NBK- won some of the biggest tournaments and was recognised as one of the best players in the world.

He has won four tournament MVP awards and was declared the fifth-best player in the world in 2013, 17th-best in 2014, and ninth-best player in the scene in 2015.

His transition to Valorant is a massive loss to the CS:GO scene; however, given NBK-'s lack of involvement in the competitive side of the game over the year, the move makes a lot of sense.

NBK- got benched from OG, in February 2021 and has since enjoyed a short stint as a stand-in for Double Poney. With the French squad, NBK- qualified for Flashpoint Season 3, where the team failed to deliver and finished eighth.

Shortly after, NBK- stepped down from the roster and decided to explore his options for the future, eventually deciding to move into another esports title. NBK- has yet to unveil which Valorant team he will join.

NBK- joins other prominent names from the CS:GO scene to leave their past success behind and give Valorant a shot. Nicholas "nitr0" Cannella,  Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom, and Spencer "Hiko" Martin are some of the most notable names who have decided to take the same step last year.
