Dead Space Remake Officially Announced

A Dead Space remake is on the way, according to an announcement at EA Play.
by Luke Luby on July 23, 2021

While there was a lot unveiled at EA Play, one of the most notable is a Dead Space remake. Though the project was long-rumored to be in development, it hadn't previously received any official confirmation. According to the announcement, the game will be exclusive to PC and new-generation consoles. It's also a full-on remake, rather than just a facelift.

The announcement also confirmed that EA's Motive Studios is developing the game. The developer is best known for Star Wars Battlefront II and Star Wars Squadrons. A press release states that the remake will feature an “improved story, characters, and gameplay mechanics." It's unclear what these improvements will entail, however, and the publisher didn't get into specifics about them.

Phillippe Ducharme, who serves as executive producer of the Dead Space remake, notes that the team behind the title is passionate about the project. He also claims that he joined Motive Studios to work on the game. In Mr. Ducharme's words:

“The Dead Space franchise made a huge impact on the survival horror genre when it was released 12 years ago, and I came to Motive as a fan first to specifically work on this game. We have a passionate team at Motive who are approaching this remake as a love letter to the franchise. Going back to the original and having the opportunity to do so on next gen consoles excited everyone on the team. As we look to modernize the game, we’ve reached out to dedicated fans and invited them to provide us with feedback since the early stages of production to deliver the Dead Space game they want and for new players to enjoy as well.”

Should the Dead Space remake prove successful, then that could naturally lead to further entries in the franchise to receive the same treatment. It's still to early to state whether that proves true, however.
