Ubisoft Hasn't Decided If It Will Support Steam Deck Yet

There Is One Condition
by Oliver VanDervoort on July 27, 2021

With the Steam Deck releasing in December, many PC gamers will be able to take their favorite games wherever they may want to play them. However popular publisher Ubisoft recently hinted that it may only be releasing games for the Steam Deck under one condition.

During a recent quarterly earnings call, Guillemot said that Ubisoft games would end up on the Steam Deck if it becomes big.

That apparently means the company is going to need to see sales numbers come close to matching what the reserve numbers have been so far.

It's important to note that Ubisoft does not have the ability to offer games on Steam or the Steam Deck. If they are on the PC platform, then they are going to be playable on the handheld device. What Guillemot is really talking about is deciding whether or not his company might eventually bring more Ubisoft titles to Steam.

It appears the popularity of Steam Deck could drive the company's market in that direction.

With the Steam Deck already selling out of 2021 models, some scalpers have already claimed several despite Valve implementing preventative measures. Scalpers have done this with various new hardware from graphics cards to countless units of Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S consoles. In spite of this issue, Ubisoft is apparently watching the success of the Steam Deck and if this level of demand continues, more Ubisoft games may be on the portable PC sooner rather than later.
