Mortal Kombat Developer Rumored To Be Working On Marvel Fighting Game

Some Of The Roster Has Reportedly Been Leaked
by Oliver VanDervoort on July 29, 2021

The roster for Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm's long-rumored Marvel fighting game has supposedly leaked.

According to Reddit user u/Comicconthrowaway, the creators of the hyper-successful Injustice: Gods Among Us franchises, are developing a new fighting game property based on the Marvel universe. The expansive roster for said game allegedly includes a mixture of popular characters alongside more obscure picks.

The character list for the game includes, "Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Wolverine, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Groot and Rocket (duo character), Blade, Gamora, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, Gambit, Shang-Chi, Kitty Pryde, Invisible Woman, Mr Fantastic, Hulk, Skaar, Doctor Octopus, Blob, Mojo, Bullseye, Mephisto, Daken, Arnim Zola, Venom, Abomination, Deacon Frost (and) Madam Masque."

The Reddit user also claimed that Deadpool will be offered as a pre-order bonus and that DLC pack will include Daredevil and Cyclops.

The roster that could end up in the game won't just include superhero. Some of the DLC is supposed to contain Kylo Ren of the Star Wars franchise. This might sound a bit strange, but Marvel is currently publishing several Star Wars comics.

The story for the game is reportedly going to be loosely based on the World War Hulk storyline and will feature similar gameplay to Injustice.

While this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt, there have been som execs with NetherRealm who have repeatedly teased the possibility of a Marvel game eventually coming.

The big question in regards to this rumor is that if the roster has already been laid out, why hasn't there been an official announcement of the game? Perhaps there will be answers to that question in the near future.
