Former LoL Pro Uzi Is Launching a Wild Rift Esports Team

Uzi is back with his own esports organization
by Tit Krajnik on July 29, 2021

Former professional player and one of the most renowned names in the League of Legends esports scene, Jian "Uzi" Zi-Hao is launching his own esports organization, Ultra Fantastic Gaming. The team will compete in LoL: Wild Rift, a mobile version of the game Uzi dedicated eight years of his life to.

Widely recognized as one of the best ADC players in the game's history, Uzi announced his retirement from competitive LoL in May 2020 due to health issues. As revealed by the Chinese esports legend, he was struggling with wrist injuries and ongoing complications with type 2 diabetes, which led him to pull the plug on his professional esports career.

At the time of his retirement, Uzi has stated that while he cannot continue playing the game at a competitive level, he wishes to remain in the esports scene. However, it wasn't this Monday, July 26, when Uzi announced his return to the professional esports scene, but not in a way many of his fans hoped for.

In an announcement post posted on Weibo, Uzi unveiled he has joined forces with a famous Chinese singer Fan Chengcheng, to form a professional esports team, Ultra Fantastic Gaming (UFG). The team will compete in Wild Rift, a mobile version of League of Legends.

Although the game is not available to the Chinese audience yet, Riot Games plans to release it later this year under the name League Mobile.

UFG has yet to form a roster and is currently recruiting new players. For aspiring esports pro players to join the team, they will need to meet specific criteria, including proficiency in Kings of Glory or League Mobile, team awareness, the ability to withstand stress, and being at least 16 years old.

Although this marks a change of career path for Uzi, it's not entirely surprising to see him launching an esports organization for League Mobile. The mobile gaming scene has gained a lot of traction in recent years, particularly in the Asian countries, where League Mobile is expected to be a massive success.

Knowing the brand value Uzi brings to UFG, it's unlikely that the newly formed esports organization will struggle to fill up their roster. Uzi was one of the most decorated LoL players in history and an iconic member of Royal Never Give Up.

During his professional career, Uzi won three domestic league titles, Mid-Season Invitational, Rift Rivals, as well as Asian Games. He has also made it to two LoL World Championship finals in 2013 and 2014; but never got to lift the Summoner's Cup, as the only trophy that eluded him in his otherwise awe-inspiring esports career.
