Dallas Empire Part Ways with "Crimsix" and "Vivid"

The 2020 CDL champions look for a fresh start
by Tit Krajnik on August 28, 2021

Dallas Empire decided to part ways with Ian "Crimsix" Porter and Reece "Vivid" Drost, following a disappointing third-place finish in the 2021 CDL Championship. The 2020 CDL Champions will look to freshen up their roster ahead of the next year, however, the Dallas-based team have yet to unveil who will fill in the vacant spots.

Roster Changes For the 2020 Champions

Dallas Empire announced the roster changes on Thursday, August 27, unveiling that Crimsix and Vivid will not be with the team heading into the next season. With the changes, Empire look to stabilize their Call of Duty roster for the 2022 season and work towards reclaiming the CDL throne, which slipped through their fingers this season.

Dallas Empire explained that they decided to part ways with Crimsix and Vivid since they're heading into a new direction for the next season. The departure comes early into the offseason because the Empire wants to start building a new foundation as soon as possible while giving Vivid and Crimsix a chance to find the best opportunity for their future.

While seeing Dallas Empire make changes to their CoD roster makes sense, many question the departure of Crimsix. As the winningest player in Call of Duty esports history, the 28-year-old played a key role in the team in 2020, when he was named the CDL Championship Most Valuable Player.

Even though Crimsix's leadership and experience proved vital to the team's success in 2020, he was unable to lead the Empire to their second trophy. It remains to be seen whether it was his decision to leave Dallas Empire and explore other opportunities or whether it was Dallas Empire who decided to start fresh in 2022.

More Roster Changes Across The League

Dallas Empire are the fourth CDL team to announce changes to its roster. Seattle Surge, who failed to qualify for the CDL Championship, released their entire roster and coaching staff earlier this month. Paris Legion, who suffered the same fate as the Surge this season, decided for the same move on Thursday, while Chicago OpTic unveiled Dylan "Envoy" Hannon is joining free agency.

With the recent news of player departures, there will be plenty of faces entering free agency this offseason. That includes Nicholas "Classic" DiCostanzo, Peirce "Gunless" Hillman, Sam "Octane" Larew, Daniel "Loony" Loza, as well as 2019 world champion Preston "Prestinni" Sanderson.

Although we are still months away from the start of the CDL season 2022, more roster changes are expected to follow in the coming weeks, as teams look to strengthen or rebuild their rosters for the third CDL season that will be played on the newly-announced Call of Duty: Vanguard.
