PEACE Win LCO Split 2, Qualify for the League of Legends World Championship

PEACE are heading to the League of Legends World Championship
by Tit Krajnik on September 02, 2021

PEACE has secured their spot at the 2021 League of Legends World Championship with a commanding win against Pentanet.gg in the LoL Circuit Oceania (LCO) Split 2 finals. PEACE stunned the reigning LCO champions 3-0 and became the fourth Oceanic LoL team in just as many years to attend the World Championship.

A Deserved, But Surprising Win

PEACE stunned Pentanet.gg and won the LCO Split 2 title with a commanding 3-0 sweep on Tuesday, August 31. Although PEACE deserved to win, their success on the day marks one of the biggest upsets of the season.

PEACE entered the LCO Split 2 Playoffs as one of the lower-seeded teams, having finished the regular season in fifth place. Their performances over the season were a far cry from the previous split when PEACE finished third with a 10-4 record and made it all the way into the finals.

There, they met with Pentanet.gg, who beat them 3-1, won the LCO Split 1, and secured their spot at the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational in Reykjavik where Pentanet.gg wrote history and made it out of the group stage.

The story from LCO Split 1 repeated itself, with PEACE meeting with Pentanet.gg in the grand finals. Although this time, the outcome of the match was much different.

PEACE made it to the LCO Split 2 finals with clean performances against Chiefs Esports Club (3-0), ORDER (3-2), and Dire Wolves (3-0), who they eliminated during their lower-bracket run. With momentum on their side, PEACE entered the finals confident that they can avenge their loss from the last split, and they didn't hesitate to show their hunger.

PEACE dominated the first two games of the series, giving Pentanet.gg little to no room to come back from early deficits. PEACE won the first map with 12-5 in kills and a 13.5k gold lead, adding another convincing W in the second map, with a 13-8 score and a 5.4k gold lead.

It wasn't until the third map of the series when Pentanet.gg started showing resistance and got themselves in a favourable position but couldn't close it out. Thanks to strong teamwork and an organized approach to team fighting, PEACE turned the game upside down and came back from a 5.8k gold deficit to seal the deal with a 3-0 sweep.

PEACE Head to LoL World Championship

The newly-formed Oceanic esports organization had a tough start to the split, largely because they were missing key parts of their main roster. PEACE were struggling to keep pace with the rest of the league and slowly started drifting towards the bottom of the ladder, eventually finding themselves tied for fifth after the sixth week of action.

However, PEACE found their form just in time to escape the slump and secured a spot in the playoffs, where they fought their way through the gauntlet and straight to their first LCO title.

PEACE's success was spearheaded by their jungler Leo "Babip" Romer, who joined the team in June after spending nearly five months with TSM Academy in North America. The former TSM Academy jungler had a monstrous performance through the playoffs and in the grand finals, leading PEACE to the historic moment in the organization's six-month history.

By winning the LCO Split 2, PEACE emerged as the fourth different team from Oceania to attend the League of Legends World Championship. The Aussies will begin their journey at the season-culminating event in the Play-In stage, where they will fight for a ticket for the group stage.

The 2021 LoL World Championship dates have yet to be announced; however, we know that the tournament will happen in Europe after Riot moved it from China. Recent reports suggest it could move to Iceland, following the country's success with hosting the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational; however, there are no official announcements about the location yet.
