SEC Now Investigating Activision Blizzard

The agency probes Activision's workplace practices
by Oliver VanDervoort on September 21, 2021

When it rains it pours for Activision Blizzard. The company is already facing a lawsuit by the state of California. Now it's also under official investigation of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC.)

Both situations are linked back to several former employees who have alleged a hostile work environment that included high-up execs actually employing what was called the "Cosby Suite" at some of their parties.

The SEC specifically, is looking into how the company dealt with allegations of harassment and sexual assault.

So far, the agency has subpoenaed the company, asking for board meeting minutes from 2019 until now, as well as employee files.

The investigation will also look into the separation agreements Activision Blizzard reached with several former employees this year.

The agency has also specifically subpoenaed Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick among others who will be asked to talk about how executives with the company dealt with and discussed the allegations at the center of both the lawsuit and the investigation.

The announcement that the SEC is now looking at the company adds yet another legal issue for a company that is best known for some of the most popular video game titles on the market.
