A God of War: Ragnarok Actor Says He's The Reason For Delay

Christopher Judge issued a heartfelt apology and explanation for the delay.
by Oliver VanDervoort on October 01, 2021

Christopher Judge, the actor who plays Kratos in the rebooted God of War series, says that surgeries were the reason Ragnarok had to be delayed to 2022.

Over the summer, Sony confirmed that the game, originally slated for release at the end of 2021, isn't coming until 2022.

While the exact cause of this delay was previously unknown, it appears quite a bit of light has now been shed on the reason.

Judge let the world know that it was some health issues that were the biggest reason for the pause on production. The actor tweeted out his rationale on Thursday.

"100 percent in my feels right now," he wrote. I need to be forthcoming. This has been approved by no one. To the beloved fandom, Ragnarok was delayed because of me. August 2019, I couldn’t walk. Had to have back surgery, both hips replaced, and, knee surgery."

Judge went on to praise Sony for giving him the time to heal without any kind of threats or recriminations.

"They waited for me to rehab," he added. "No threats, no, 'who do you think you are?' Nothing but love and support. And Sony Santa Monica has never said a word about the delay, and what caused it. Studios are a--holes, but this company from top to bottom should give us hope."

Now that the voice actor is back and healthy, it appears that it's full steam ahead for God of War Ragnarok, which is currently slated for a 2022 release, though an exact date is still not yet known.
