Everything Announced During Nintendo’s June Direct

Nintendo Directs never miss!
by Natalie Collazo on June 22, 2023

Every single direct that Nintendo puts out seems to be better than the last. Just when it seems like they can't possibly announce something even more incredible than the last, they manage to top it with ease. This direct was no different, and we wrote up everything that was shown down below. Several classics make their return on the Nintendo Switch in a bold move that had many of us simply jumping with joy. Check out everything below!

Detective Pikachu Returns

If you didn't get a chance to play the first Detective Pikachu for the Nintendo 3DS, or watch the feature-length film starring Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu, then now is your chance to jump in on the fun! Detective Pikachu Returns is just that, a return to the adventure with new Pokemon and exciting adventures. Tim Goodman also returns to help Pikachu solve mysteries in his little deerstalker cap.

New Tears of the Kingdom amiibo

While we were all probably awaiting some sort of DLC content for Tears of the Kingdom, it looks like we got amiibos instead. In addition to the ones that have already been released for the game, now you can add Ganon and Zelda to your collection. It is possible that Nintendo waited so long to release these because the figures themselves do hold minor spoilers. Alas, unless you played the game, the spoilers aren't really there.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection

While this was already announced, the direct proved that the collection will also be available on Nintendo Switch. It will be available on October 24 and will include Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear, and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, and Snake's Revenge.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC Trailer

We only got a poster and legendary announcements when the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, was first announced. Now, we got an in-depth look at the different DLC, The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disc, and what more we can expect when it finally launches this fall and this winter.

Wario Ware: Move It!

Wario and his equally famous brother, Jimmy Poppadopolos (also known as Waliugi after he legally had his name changed according to an old Nintendo Power magazine), have become staples within the Mario franchise. Unfortunately, only one of them has his own game and it's coming to the Switch on November 3. There are over 200 minigames to play and compete in with up to four players!

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

This is the first 2D Mario game since the release of Super Mario Bros. U on the Wii U. This game will bring back the classic gameplay style of older Mario games while also bringing completely new aspects to the series. In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a new item is being introduced called the Wonder Flower. This flower makes the pipes that Mario walks on bend and move to show different and new areas that couldn't be reached before. You will also have the ability to play as fan-favorite characters including Yoshi, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, and Toad. It will be available to play on October 20.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 5

A Nintendo Direct just wouldn't be the same without some sort of Mario Kart love. We got a glimpse at wave 5 of the booster course pass which showed off the new course, Squeaky Clean Spring as well as three new characters: Pirahna Plant, Kamek, and Wiggler.

Vampire Survivors

The vampire game that doesn't have any vampires: Vampire Survivors. You're tasked with surviving for thirty minutes while hordes of monsters attack you. It'll be easy at first, but soon, more and more monsters will fill the screen and take your attention. As you progress, you'll be granted different upgrades and abilities in order to move forward with ease. It will be available on August 17 and will allow up to four players to play together on one console.

Super Mario RPG Remake

That's right! Nintendo has finally decided to remake one of its most beloved Super Nintendo games. This time, we can expect all-new graphics set to the same story starring Mario, bower, Peach, geno, and Mallow as they look four the seven stars needed to complete the Star Road.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Comes to Switch

If you've only ever been able to play Luigi's Mansion 3 because it was the only one available on the Switch, then the wait is finally over! Originally a 3DS title, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is being brought to the Nintendo Switch sometime next year.

Princess Peach Game Teased

Also announced was a new, unnamed Princess Peach game that is set to launch at some point next year. It is unclear why this particular game was shown so early, but it's possible that the character's overwhelming popularity due to a famous song sung by Jack Black has something to do with it.

Sonic Superstars

We already saw the announcement of Sonic Superstars during Summer Game Fest 2023, but now we have been graced with some gameplay of what we can expect.

Beyond all of that, we saw a few other titles that will be hitting the Nintendo Switch including a Pikmin 4 demo that will be hitting the eShop on June 28 and HD versions of Pikmin 1 and 2 which will be available starting today. Batman: Arkham Trilogy was also announced for the Switch which will include Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight. Palia, a cozy life simulator, gameplay for Persona 5 Tactica, and Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince were also announced during the show.
