Team Vitality Officially Part Ways With Shox

Shox has been heavily linked with a move to Team Liquid
by Tit Krajnik on December 22, 2021

Team Vitality bid farewell to Richard "shox" Papillon on Wednesday, December 22, ending the 29-year-old's two-year tenure with the French Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team. The announcement follows the rumours of a complete roster overhaul, which will see the arrival of the former Astralis trio to Vitality.

Shox Is Out

Team Vitality announced the departure of shox on Wednesday, December 22, bringing an end to the 29-year-old's lengthy tenure with the team.

Shox joined Vitality in September 2019 and has remained with the team since, helping Vitality claim numerous high-profile titles, including EPICENTER 2019, IEM Beijing 2020, and BLAST Premier Fall 2020.

Although the team struggled to achieve much in 2021, Vitality found some traction towards the end of the year. They reached the playoffs of PGL Major Stockholm 2021, finals of the BLAST Premier: Fall Finals 2021, and won IEM Winter 2021 in December.

Shox leaves Vitality as one of the most experienced Counter-Strike players, having first entered the competitive scene in 2006 as a Counter-Strike: Source pro. Since moving to CS:GO in 2021, shox has played for some of the most successful teams in the world, including Titan, and Team LDLC, with who he won a Major title at DreamHack Winter 2014.

An Expected Move

The announcement of shox's departure from the team comes as little surprise, as Vitality already reported that Jayson "Kyojin" Nguyen Van, coach Rémy "XTQZZZ" Quoniamhe, and shox were all set to leave the team by the end of the year. The changes come as a part of a major roster overhaul ahead of the 2022 season, ushered in by Vitality's subpar showings throughout 2021.

As already revealed, Vitality is set to build a new international roster with the additions of Emil "Magisk" Reif, Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen, and coach Danny "zonic" Sørensen. The Danish trio is set to join Vitality by the end of the year, once their contracts with Astralis run out.

But despite the confirmed departures of two players and a coach, Vitality ended the year on a high note. Going against all the odds, the French squad had a resurgent performance in the year's final three months, claiming silver at the BLAST Premier Fall Final, winning IEM Winter, and placing third at the BLAST World Final.

A Move To Team Liquid?

Shox has yet to officially announce where he will continue his long and illustrious CS:GO career. However, the French veteran has been linked with a move to Team Liquid, where he will join Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski and Keith "NAF" Markovic.

Like Vitality, Liquid are looking to overhaul its roster ahead of the 2022 season. As reported, Liquid will keep only EliGE and NAF and add Josh "oSee" Ohm and Nick "nitr0" Cannella to round up the new roster.

Although Liquid has yet to confirm shox signing, the departure of Michael "Grim" Wince, Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo, and Jake "Stewie2K" Yip on Tuesday, December 21, suggests further announcements can be expected to surface in the coming weeks.
