Cloud9 Form A CS:GO Academy Roster

Cloud9 expand its CS:GO division
by Tit Krajnik on August 07, 2022

Cloud9 has announced the recruitment of a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster on Saturday, August 6. The academy roster will feature an all-Russian squad, led by former Gambit Esports analyst and coach Ivan "F_1N" Kochugov.

Four months after re-entering the competitive Counter-Strike: Global Offensive scene, Cloud9 decided to expand its CS:GO division by signing a young and promising academy lineup. The secondary squad will feature mostly unknown players with little to no experience competing at a high level, with Vladislav "H1te" Khait as the most experienced individual of the three, having recorded 62 maps in his professional career.

"Our initial goals for this squad are to get competitive experience and with time to establish itself as a top 30 team in the world," read the announcement.

The academy project will consist of H1te, Maksim "dekz" Korolev, Daniil "alpha" Demin, Matvey "sm3t" Gogin, and Artem "sstr1ct" Mesnyankin, with F_1N taking over as the head coach.

Cloud9's CS:GO manager Aleksandr Shcherbakov provided further insight into the plans for the project, stating that the North American organization decided to form the team for three main reasons.

The main goal of Cloud9 Academy is to offer the young players opportunities provided by Cloud9 organization, which, combined with strong coaching staff, made it very appealing to build another squad from scratch. Moreover, Cloud9 Academy will be able to compete in events the main squad will not, and lastly, the academy players will be able to serve as substitutes for the main team.

Cloud9 Academy have yet to be invited to any CS:GO event, but the organization hopes they will get an invitation for the next WePlay Academy League. Whether C9 Academy will actually compete in WePlay's academy tournament has yet to be confirmed or denied.
