New Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon Wii U Bundle - ORD

The Wii U may have been considered a commercial flop, but it still had some fantastic games. Unfortunately, two of the console's most popular titles, Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon, were recently taken offline due to a security vulnerability related to online play. Nintendo has not given a timeline for when these games will be back online.

The original Splatoon is considered one of the most innovative games that Nintendo has released in the past decade. This shutdown is a significant blow to fans, as the Wii U is currently the only way to play the game. Super Mario Maker, another popular online game for the Wii U, was shut down permanently in 2021.

Sadly, shutting down the servers for successful online games has become an accepted reality in the gaming industry. Fans of historically important games like the original Demon's Souls have had to pick up the slack. Some studios have struggled to restore online play to major games after maintenance, such as the Dark Souls series, which experienced a six-month shutdown in 2022 due to a severe security flaw.

If you're in need of a Mario Kart fix, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still available to play online on the Nintendo Switch. Nonetheless, fans of the original Splatoon will have to wait for a while to experience the game's unique and innovative gameplay.
