Counter-Strike 2 Reportedly Around The Corner

According to a prominent esports news reports, Richard Lewis, the release of Counter-Strike 2 is closer than expected
by Tit Krajnik on March 05, 2023

A well-respected esports news reporter, Richard Lewis, unveiled on Sunday, March 5, that the release of Counter-Strike 2 is closer than expected. According to his sources, CS2 could enter beta as soon as March or April 2023.

In what can only be described as one of the biggest news in the gaming and esports industry, Valve is reportedly close to releasing Counter-Strike 2, a successor to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Despite being a meme for years, we might really be getting the latest Counter-Strike title, nearly 11 years following the release of CS:GO in August 2021.

For years, we were getting leaks and hints of Valve working on the next iteration of Counter-Strike, which will supposedly run on the Source 2 engine. But the release has been promised so much that CS2 became a part of an ongoing joke which became a bit more believable in February when the official Valve Twitter account changed its banner, yet nothing came out of it.

Earlier this month, images started appearing with people figuring out that NVIDIA’s latest drivers had introduced support for two new executables, cs2.exe and csgos2, adding a bit more water to the rumour mill.

Things went quiet, and we hadn’t heard much about the possible release of Counter-Strike 2 until this Sunday, when Richard Lewis stated that he has information from reliable sources that Counter-Strike 2 is not only real but just around the corner.

“Speaking under the condition of anonymity sources with a knowledge of the game’s development told us that indeed there was a new version of Counter-Strike on its way and that had been worked on for some time,” said Richard Lewis.

“The new version is almost certainly set to be released under the working title Counter-Strike 2 and the tentative release date for the beta is in this month of March, with April 1st at the outside.”

The only piece of information about the new game is the already known fact that it will run on the Source 2 engine, which should improve the graphics of the game and optimisation. Moreover, it was said that the official servers would (finally) move to 128 tick, with the feature supposedly ready with the beta release.

It remains to be seen how will the release of Counter-Strike 2 affect the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive scene and whether the new game will co-exist with CS:GO. But if the rumours are correct - which, based on Richard Lewis's reputation, likely are - we won’t have to wait long to get an answer.
