Starfield Does Not Currently Include DLSS Support

We're still excited for it, though.
by Natalie Collazo on August 25, 2023

Bethesda's newest IP, Starfield is set to come out in less than a month, but we're still finding new things about it. Our latest find revolves around the fact that the partnership between Starfield and AMD. Originally, fans were upset because most players who are going to purchase the game have an Nvidia graphics card. The partnership with the rival graphics card means that a lot of the features that are available for Nvidia card users won't be available, including support for its DLSS upscaling.

Now, it looks like the game still won't support DLCC upscaling, even for those with AMD cards. The news was shared by AMD's head of gaming, Frank Azor in a comment that was made.

"If and when Bethesda wants to put DLSS into the game, they have our full support."

DLSS support drastically increases frame rates and the smoothness of a game as it's being played. Besides this, it also looks like the game is set to launch at 30 frames per second for the Xbox family of consoles. This was apparently done in order to preserve the game's quality for everyone who plays it, but some of us ar not convinced.

It's not a new thing for games to release new graphics patches after launch, but this really shouldn't be the case for a game that is expected to be a contender for Game of the Year. Alas, we're probably going to have to rely on the support of the modding community if we have any hope of getting this support sooner rather than later.

Starfield will be available on September 6 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
