Nintendo Adds Passkey Support For Additional Login Security

Added security for fewer break-ins.
by Natalie Collazo on September 20, 2023

It's important to be able to have things like two-step authentication or text verification when it comes to something as important as your Nintendo Online account. More and more companies have opted for an additional layer of security so that their users don't need to worry about any potential issues. Now, Nintendo has taken charge and added passkey support to their online accounts to really blanket a user's security.

To make it tougher for anyone to hack into your account, there will be up to ten passkeys that can be used. You will need to have one of the following devices in order to do this:

  • iPhone with iOS 16 or newer
  • iPad with iPadOS 16 or newer
  • Mac computer with macOS 13 or newer
  • Android devices with Android OS 9 or newer

While your Nintendo Online account has all of the games you've ever purchased using it, it also houses your credit card information if you opt to have it saved. That's where the real problem lies and people can take the information to use on things outside of the Nintendo eShop.

Nintendo is no stranger to cracking down against those who violate any of their rules from lawsuits to cease and desist letters. In the case of credit cards, it's a little harder for them to fight on your behalf so creating this system is their answer to any future attempts at getting into someone's account.
