by Natalie Collazo on December 12, 2023

Remedy Entertainment has unveiled The Final Draft update for Alan Wake 2, offering a haunting blend of new story content and the highly anticipated New Game Plus mode.

Released in late October, Alan Wake 2 immerses players in the surreal world of the titular tortured writer, with the sequel emphasizing survival horror elements and demanding meticulous inventory management and decision-making for survival.

Return to Bright Falls in the Final Draft Update for Alan Wake 2

The Final Draft update allows players to revisit the eerie narrative with added challenges, including the Nightmare difficulty level. The New Game Plus mode enables players to retain unlocked items from their initial playthrough, such as videos, charms, and upgrades. To access this new content, players must have completed Alan Wake 2 at least once.

Moreover, the update introduces a slew of enhancements, including a brand new ending, Manuscript pages, and video content — all of which freshly elevate the intensity of the horror experience. Technical improvements have also been made, addressing performance issues across the board. Notably, the PS5's "quality mode" sees significant enhancements, ensuring a smoother and more immersive gameplay experience. For Xbox Series console users, the update tackles texture streaming issues.

Expect a Ton of Patch Fixes Too

Delving into the patch notes reveals meticulous attention to detail, with specific fixes ranging from shadow quality in the Valhalla Nursing home to property value-raising repairs on the garage building in downtown Bright Falls. The Final Draft update promises an enriched and polished adventure, providing players with an even more refined and respectful journey into the ominous mysteries of Bright Falls.

It's no wonder it recently won Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2023, where the team also performed a live version of Herald of Darkness, performed by Poets of the Fall, who reprised their roles as the fictional band Old Gods of Asgard.
