Season of Discovery Phase 2 Release Date

The grind continues on February 8
by Tit Krajnik on January 09, 2024

World of Warcraft Classic: Season of Discovery Phase 1 has proven to be a huge success. The new season brought a breath of fresh air to a 20-year-old game and it didn’t need long to captivate gamers who embarked on new adventures, exploring new runes and fighting new monsters.

WoW SoD Phase 1 launched with the release of the new season on November 30, 2023. Two months later, the game is as popular as ever; however, the players have long been asking when Season of Discovery Phase 2 will be released.

With a level cap of 25 and just one raid (Blackfathom Deeps), WoW players didn’t need long to explore everything SoD Phase 1 had to offer. Even though Blizzard stated that it doesn’t plan to release the second phase soon after the launch of the Season of Discovery, the second phase is now just around the corner.

When Does Season of Discovery Phase 2 Release?

As confirmed by Blizzard on Monday, January 8, 2024, Season of Discovery Phase 2 will be released on February 8. Early reactions to the news were mixed, as many gamers believe that Phase 1 is a little too long already and having to want another month might lead to many leaving the game.

However, overall, there is still a lot of hype about SoD and what the second phase will bring.

While Blizzard hasn’t explicitly stated what will come with Season of Discovery Phase 2 with the release date announcement, some changes are already known.

SoD Phase 2 Changes

With World of Warcraft SoD Phase 2, the level cap will be raised to 40, which will significantly bolster the players’ access to key talents and spells. At level 40, the players will finally reach the bottom of talent trees, granting access to powerful abilities previously not accessible at level 25.

Moreover, at level 40, basic 60% mounts will become available, making traveling around the world and exploring areas a bit quicker.

And while higher levels will allow players to access new spells, most are excited about what new runes will be added to the game. It’s still unclear whether a new rune slot will be added, but it’s fair to expect more powerful runes, which will again shake up the balance of power between classes.

According to Blizzard senior game producer Josh “Aggrend” Greenfield, WoW: SoD Phase 2 might also introduce a new way to level. But nothing has been confirmed yet.

Lastly, SoD Phase 2 will introduce a new raid – Gnomeregan, with new loot and possibly new and more dangerous bosses.

  • Level cap increase to 40
  • New runes
  • New PvP zone – Stranglethorn Vale
  • New raid – Gnomeregan

So far, that’s all we know about SoD Phase 2. However, with the release date fast approaching, it won’t take long before Blizzard shares more details about what the second phase will bring.
