New Details Emerge on Project Heartbreak from Firesprite Studios

A collaboration that puts Rockstar animation lead and Telltale writing director together
by Joe Wilcock on February 05, 2024

Colin Moriarty, an industry insider, has revealed that Sony-owned studio Firesprite is reportedly working on a new project codenamed Project Heartbreak. This information was disclosed during the latest episode of the Sacred Symbols Podcast. The studio, acquired by Sony in September 2021, has been a subject of speculation regarding its upcoming releases, including persistent rumors about a new Twisted Metal game.

Project Heartbreak is said to be in its early development stages and boasts a noteworthy team, including Mondo Gulam, a former Animation Director at Rockstar Games, and Pierre Sheret, the ex-Writing Director from Telltale Games. Sheret, known for his work on narrative-driven titles like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, is reportedly penning the script for Firesprite's latest venture.

The leaked details indicate that Project Heartbreak is set on an island, featuring a female protagonist. This aligns with information gleaned from Gulam's LinkedIn profile, which confirms his role as the animation director for the project. However, the nature of Firesprite's involvement in other rumored projects, such as a Twisted Metal game, remains uncertain.

Who are Firesprite?

Firesprite, comprising around 300 employees and formed by former members of Studio Liverpool, has recently delved into VR game development, contributing to titles like Horizon: Call of the Mountain for PSVR 2 in collaboration with Guerrilla Games. The studio's repertoire also includes job listings hinting at two ongoing projects: a multiplayer game and a horror title.

While the leaked information provides a glimpse into Firesprite's current endeavors, the studio's overall strategy and game lineup remain shrouded in ambiguity. The open QA job listing hints at ongoing developments, potentially involving multiple projects, with Project Heartbreak being just one piece of the puzzle.
