World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Season 4 Dungeon Difficulty Changes Announced

Big changes for Mythic+, but no changes for key pushing
by Tit Krajnik on March 12, 2024

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Season 3 is nearing its end; however, even though Blizzard has yet to reveal when Season 4 will start, players got a sneak peek at what changes will be added in the final season of the expansion. As confirmed on Tuesday, March 12, Blizzard intends to introduce significant adjustments to Mythic+ dungeons regarding difficulty scaling and rewards.

In a blog post, Blizzard revealed World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Season 4 dungeon changes, which include adjustments to dungeons, progress, and rewards.

Dragonflight Season 4 Dungeon Changes

The announced changes will address three issues the development team identified in previous seasons, mainly through community feedback. The new system will address:

  • Lack of distinction between normal and Heroic dungeons at the maximum level
  • Mythic 0 dungeons losing relevance a few weeks into the expansion
  • Mythic+ revolves too much around a timer

To address these concerns, Blizzard will revisit the old system and adjust it to improve rewards gained from dungeons. The new system will restructure dungeons and implement three key changes:

  • Heroic difficulty and rewards will move up to the level of Mythic 0
  • Mythic 0 dungeons and rewards will move up to the level of Mythic 8-10
  • The current Mythic+ system will pick up from Mythic 10, meaning a Mythic 5 will be as challenging as current Mythic 15

Along with the difficulty changes, Mythic+ dungeons will also have different affix slots, now set at +2, +5, and +10. However, the dungeon's ratings will be equivalent to those in the current system, whereas the end-of-dungeon and Great Vault rewards will move up according to the changes made to difficulties.

Changes to Mythic+ Timers

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Season 4 will also introduce changes to how timers work. Since Blizzard believes that end-game Mythic+ relies too much on timing keys, timers in current Mythic 0-10 will be removed and no longer relevant for completing the key.
With that, Blizzard intends to accomplish three things:

  • Recalibrate core difficulties to align with seasonal player experience and progression.
  • Serve the community who enjoys dungeon content but feels that Mythic+ content isn’t for them due to the pressures of taking part.
  • Create a better environment in Mythic dungeons to prepare more players to take part in Mythic+

With these changes, Blizzard believes the game can provide new opportunities for players to experience Mythic+ dungeons and provide new challenges for endgame players. However, while the adjustments will make Mythic+ more relevant in lower-level keys, they don’t exactly touch on high-end Mythic+ pushing, which has long required some changes, especially due to high scaling and the current affix system.
