The Switch's Lifetime Might End With This New Special Edition

And it couldn't end with a biger bang.
by Natalie Collazo on July 12, 2024

On June 18, Nintendo announced the Switch Lite Hyrule Edition for availability on September 26. Now, players can pre-order it and get their hands on what might be the very last special edition for the Switch before the Switch 2 comes out.

The special Hyrule edition of the Nintendo Switch Lite was announced simultaneously as The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. The game puts players in the shoes of Zelda rather than Link, who must save the latter after he gets himself into some trouble. It's in the new Link's Awakening style and provides new and different features that players can take advantage of as Zelda.

Nintendo Switch Lite Hyrule Edition is Available to Pre-Order

While there hasn't been any official news about whether or not this is the final Switch Lite console, the signs seem to point towards that. In recent years, whenever Nintendo is going to end a console's run, it releases a special Zelda edition of that console. Instead of the console being as elaborate as Nintendo normally would be for that kind of special edition, the editions are always gold with an image of the Triforce.

There have been plenty of rumblings that the Switch 2 will be released next year, with an official announcement later this year, but we won't know more until Nintendo officially says something. Many franchise fans would likely agree that Echoes of Wisdom isn't necessarily a title that will revolutionize the franchise, so having a special edition console for it also seems a bit odd.
