Ana To Stand-In For Royal Never Give Up At Arlington Major

Ana will join Royal Never Give Up as a replacement for Ghost
by Tit Krajnik on July 30, 2022

Australian Dota 2 superstar Anathan "ana" Pham will play for Royal Never Give Up at the upcoming Arlington Dota Pro Circuit Major. The 22-year-old will replace Daniel "Ghost" Chan Kok Hong, who was unable to secure a travel visa.

The announcement comes after Royal Never Give Up stated it made a number of efforts to secure travel visas for its entire Dota 2 squad, which it succeeded for everyone bug Ghost. With the Arlington Major fast approaching and RNG running out of time to find a replacement, the Chinese esports organization turned to the retired Dota 2 pro player and two-time The International champion ana, who has agreed to step-in.

By joining Royal Never Give Up as a temporary replacement, ana will continue his return to professional play after he already enjoyed a short stint with Team Liquid at Riyadh Masters 2022 at the start of the month.

Although adding an accomplished Dota 2 player to the lineup seems like a good move, losing Ghost is a huge blow for the Chinese Dota 2 squad, which has only recently stepped out of the PSG.LGD's shadow and emerged as serious contenders for The International. Although always competitive, Royal Never Give Up have struggled to make a name for themselves in the Chinese region, consistently finishing behind PSG.LGD and other of the region's top teams.

But that changed at the start of July when Royal Never Give Up won DPC China Tour 3 Division I, claiming their first title since Huya Winter Invitational 2020 in December 2020. Notably, RNG also won showmatch event Gamers Without Borders 2022: Asia in May.

Although ana will not manage to fill in Ghost's shoes, the 22-year-old Australian Dota 2 pro should be a serviceable replacement for the Chinese squad as they chase their first Major title in the organization's history.

Royal Never Give Up is not the only team dealing with these issues. Fnatic will have to compete at the Major with three substitutes, while OG had to again call in Sébastien "Ceb" Debs to replace Mikhail "Misha" Agatov. Another Chinese Dota 2 team, Xtreme Gaming, on their side, had to pull out of the Major entirely due to visa issues.

The PGL Arlington Major 2022 will kick off on August 4 at Esports Stadium Arlington in Arlington, Texas, featuring 17 Dota 2 teams competing for the lion's share of the $500,000 prize pool and 4,570 DPC points. Royal Never Give Up will be one of three Chinese teams at the event alongside Team Aster and PSG.LGD
