Three Games Are Leaving PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium

SOMA, Red Dead Redemption, and Undead Nightmare depart
by Joe Wilcock on October 10, 2022

PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium will be losing yet another game this month, adding to the two we already know about. Sony's official PlayStation store confirmed that Soma, Frictional Games' survival horror, will be leaving the PS Plus catalog on October 18th. It will join Red Dead Redemption (PS3) and Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare (PS3) on the cutting room floor, just in time for Halloween too.

Launching back in 2015, Soma was praised at release for its intriguing story and accompanying voice acting. After the protagonist is involved in a car crash, resulting in brain damage, they must take part in an experimental brain scan that yields foreboding consequences. It's a true phycological horror that is well worth a play for the Halloween season, despite the few flaws it contains.

Red Dead Redemption needs no introduction and comes as somewhat of a surprise that it's leaving the PS Plus Extra/Premium roster. Rockstar's epic western was one of the stand-out titles for the PS3 and has become synonymous with the seventh generation of consoles. A masterclass in storytelling, character development and voice acting, it's amongst the best period piece games ever developed. Red Dead Redemption will be leaving the catalog on October 17th.

Red Dead Redemption's stand-alone DLC, Undead Nightmare, completes the trio of games leaving the list. Back before Rockstar was hell-bent on milking their online components, they would often release high-quality DLCs for their titles. Undead Nightmare was a shining example of this and a perfect game to play to get a horror fix. Fans only have until October 17th to experience this zombie-western mashup.

  • Red Dead Redemption (PS3) – October 17, 2022
  • Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare (PS3) – October 17, 2022
  • SOMA (PS4) – October 18, 2022

Although PlayStation Plus is losing the aforementioned titles, it is gaining three more through its monthly free games. Injustice 2, Superhot and Hot Wheels Unleashed are available this month, softening the blow.
