TSM Welcome Two New Dota 2 Players

TSM finalize its Dota 2 roster for the 2023 season
by Tit Krajnik on December 04, 2022

TSM unveiled the signing of two new Dota 2 support players Matthew "Ari" Walker and Matthew "Whitemon" Filemon, as the final missing pieces of the roster. The announcement came on Sunday, December 4, just days before the roster lock deadline on December 9.

TSM finalized its 2023 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) roster on Sunday, with Whitemon and Ari, who join the North American esports organization from T1 and Into the Breach, respectively. The duo will team up with Enzo "Timado" O'Connor, Jonathan "Bryle" Guia, and Jonáš "SabeRLight-" Volek.

Whitemon signed for TSM just weeks after he was let go from T1, who transferred listed its entire Dota 2 roster and disbanded the project in November. Ario, on the other side, has spent the last five months with Into The Breach and is the least-experience player on the new-look roster, having begun his professional Dota 2 career in May 2022.

But despite his lack of experience, the 19-year-old Brit has achieved a lot in 2022. He led Into The Breach to a silver medal in DPC WEU 2021/2022 Tour 3: Division II and reached the finals of 1x Series. In September, Ani and Into The Breach also impressed during The International 2022: Western Europe Qualifier, where they made it to the lower bracket semifinals but were eventually eliminated by The International 2022 finalists, Team Secret.

Ari is also a former Heroes of the Storm player who reached #1 on the European ladder in 2018 but decided to switch to Dota 2 after Blizzard discontinued HotS esports scene.

With the two signings, TSM now fields a complete Dota 2 roster, which will represent the prominent NA esports organization in its second year in the scene, as TSM looks to build on the success they've achieved in 2022. Last term, TSM emerged as one of the top NA teams – they won DPC NA 2021/2022 Tour 1: Regional Final and added two silver medals from Tour 2: Division I and ESL One Stockholm Major.

Unfortunately, TSM ran out of steam towards the end of the season, with two seventh-eighth place finishes at Riyadh Masters 2022 and ESL One Malaysia 2022, and ended the year with a 19th-20th place finish at The International 2022.

TSM have since parted ways with Kim "DuBu" Doo-young and moved David "MoonMeander" Tan to the coaching position.
