One Feature Convinced Fans to Review Bomb Earth Defense Force 6

Why do we have to connect accounts anyway?
by Natalie Collazo on July 25, 2024

The Earth Defense Force franchise is known for being strange and comical. After all, you're fighting against alien bugs who have come down to attack Earth. However, it isn't anything in the game that's caused players to review and bomb it on Steam; it's the fact that you need to have an Epic Online account connected to it.

Why do players have to connect their accounts, even if they and all of their friends are playing on Steam? It's the question that everyone is asking themselves as the negative reviews keep piling on.

Earth Defense Force 6 Isn't a Bad Game

Remember when Helldivers 2 flirted with the same idea, also causing the game to be review-bombed? Well, it seems as though Sandlot didn't learn from that mistake. There is a valid reason as to why they did it, so it's not as though it was a random decision. The game is the first in the series unable to handle cross-platform play, leading to the developer making such an egregious decision.

There is no sign of developer Sandlot changing back, meaning that this might be the norm for the time being. Unfortunately, this will continue to affect the game's Steam ratings (and likely its PlayStation ratings). As of right now, its Steam page is Mostly Negative out of 1,237, and it was only released today. The news comes as a shock to fans who have already paid for it, so there's also a chance that many of the reviews belong to players are no longer within the eligible parameters for a refund.
